Learn more about dental crowns and how they can help you with our user-friendly guide below.
What Is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a small-cap used to cover or replace a damaged tooth. They’re almost as tough as natural teeth, made from durable dental-grade resin. The resin is easily customizable to match your existing smile’s exact shape, size, and color to create a seamless blend that feels comfortable and natural.
Do I Need a Dental Crown?
Dentists use dental crowns as a part of several other dental procedures like root canals and implants. Dental crowns are also incredibly useful for solving other issues with your teeth, including:
- Decay
- Cracks, chips, or breaks
- Wear or weakening
- Discoloration or yellowing
- Uneven sizing
Our expert team can use dental crowns to repair one or several teeth simultaneously so you can enjoy the benefits of a full and healthy smile right away.
Receiving Your Crowns
Consultation
The first step in receiving your dental crowns is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Huff at our Kerrville office. Our professional team will assess your teeth, discuss your smile goals, and provide a deep cleaning during this appointment.
We’ll then prepare the tooth by shaving a small portion of enamel to create a smooth, even surface to attach the crown. We’ll administer a local anesthetic to prevent any pain or discomfort. Then, we’ll take high-quality digital impressions of your smile to send to a dental lab, which will use the scans to create your customized crowns.
The process can take a few weeks, and Dr. Huff will provide a temporary crown until the permanent restoration is ready. This will protect your tooth from any damage or pain.
Your Permanent Restoration
Once your crowns are ready, we’ll schedule your second appointment. We’ll remove the temporary crown, clean the tooth again, and shape the tooth as needed to ensure the crown fits perfectly.
Dr. Huff will attach the permanent crown using a strong dental adhesive that hardens under a special light. After making sure the fit is comfortable, you can leave the office with a beautiful, newly restored smile. Not only will you feel more confident, but you’ll also be able to eat and speak with ease once again!
