Tooth Decay & Tooth-Colored Fillings
If Dr. Huff finds that you have a cavity, it is important that you have the decay removed. Dr. Huff can remove the decayed area and restore the remaining tooth with a tooth-colored filling.
Why you will love tooth-colored fillings
If you find that you require a dental filling, but want to also have a smile that does not show it, we can make sure you have the healthy smile you want without the glaring reminder of the cavity. Today we have the option to restore teeth with composite tooth colored filling material that seamlessly blends with the surrounding teeth.
Porcelain dental crowns or caps are placed when a traditional filling is not enough to restore the tooth to function. Crowns can serve both restorative and cosmetic purposes. Most people need crowns to solve the following issues:
- Protecting soft or weakened teeth
- Supporting decayed or damaged teeth that have extensive fillings
- Anchoring bridgework
- Restoring the appearance of misshapen, chipped or discolored teeth
- Covering a dental implant
- Rebuilding a tooth after a root canal
- Creating a healthy bite
What is it like to get a crown?
Dr. Huff will first provide a local anesthetic to numb the area before preparing your tooth for its crown. You will then have impressions taken and the tooth or teeth will be prepared (shaped). Reshaping may involve minor filing, or it could mean more of the damaged area is removed. The amount of your natural tooth that must be removed depends on the type of crown you’re getting and the reason for the restoration.
